Background:
Rich began his career in science at the University of Connecticut where he obtained a B.A. in Chemistry and an M.S. degree in Analytical Chemistry. During his Master's studies Dr. Kriwacki also worked as a research scientist at Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. After completing his M.S. Rich headed to Yale University for his Ph.D. studies, where he conducted research on NMR Spectroscopy of Proteins.Dr. Kriwacki came West to Scripps in 1994 where he has been doing work in Structural Biology using NMR Spectroscopy with Peter Wright. He has recently accepted a faculty appointment at St. Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

| Abstract:
His talk will examine Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization and electrospray mass spectrometry as powerful tools in structural biology. Applications ranging from amino acid sequence confirmation and identification of protein modifications to domain elucidation and the mapping of interfaces within protein complexes will be discussed as well as examples from his work with proteins involved in the regulation of the cell cycle.
