John Fjeldsted is currently the R&D Director of Agilent’s LC/MS, Proteomics & Metabolomics. In that role, he is responsible for the technology and development of new LC/MS instrumentation. He also directs Intellectual Property strategy and management. Dr. Fjeldsted received his undergraduate and doctorate in analytical chemistry from Brigham Young University. His research was on instrumentation development -- coupling supercritical fluid chromatography to mass spectrometry. After completion in 1984 he joined Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto, California, where he spent several years as the principal R&D scientist for GC/MS product development. Over the last 10 years Dr. Fjeldsted has been responsible for the conception and development of Agilent’s Ion Trap and Time of Flight LC/MS products as well as the new QQQ and QTOF instruments being introduced.


In his spare time he enjoys photography and rebuilding vintage Volkswagens with his sons.
